// About

EOV Selection Display is a free window for Maya that lists everything selected in the scene. A big number on top tells you how many objects are selected, and you take the extra ones off with a click or a drag over the list — the rest of the selection stays put.

You select a bunch of controls and have no idea how many there are or whether everything made it in. You start trimming with Ctrl-clicks in the viewport, miss once, and the whole selection is gone. Here the selection sits in front of you as a list, and you edit it calmly, row by row.

The count, in big digits

The top of the window reads "17 of 20": seventeen selected out of twenty in the list. On the right, "3 off" says how many you took off. You can read it from across the room, no more counting in the Outliner.

Click to drop, click to bring back

The list is flat: think of an Outliner with everything expanded and only the selection left in it, with the same icons as the Maya Outliner. Click a blue row and that object leaves the scene selection; nothing else changes. The row does not vanish, it turns grey, and a second click brings it back.

Drag like a brush

Hold the mouse button and drag over the list. Start on a blue row and the drag takes off everything it passes; start on a grey row and it brings them back. Near the edges the list scrolls by itself. One drag is one Ctrl+Z step.

The list follows the scene

Shift-click in the viewport adds an object to the end of the list, Ctrl-click turns its row grey. A plain click on another object starts the list over. If you build a selection for a while and worry about a stray click, press the pin in the title bar: the list is never rebuilt, new objects are only added to it.

Search by name

Type part of a name and every match gets a colored frame, with the list scrolled to the first one. Enter and Shift+Enter step through the matches, Esc clears the search. The list is not filtered, so you see what is around a match and can take it off right away.

Keep what is left

Three buttons at the bottom: To Sets saves it as a button on the EOV Selection Sets panel, Maya Set as a regular Maya set, To Shelf as a shelf button that selects these objects. The right-click menu adds select all, deselect all, invert and drop the grey rows from the list.

A pair with EOV Selection Sets

Display builds and cleans up a selection, and EOV Selection Sets keeps it as a button on a slim panel over the viewport. To Sets sends the selection straight there. Each script works on its own too: without Sets installed, To Sets tells you where to get it.

What it does not do

It is not an Outliner: there is no hierarchy, no parents or children, only what is selected. It does not rename or delete objects — the window only changes the selection. Search highlights matches, it does not hide the rest. The interface is in English, the manual in English and Russian.
